It needs a long time to experience the leisure and entitude of Xiamen. The Gulangyu Island is a land of idyllic beauty in particular; and the Xiamen University enjoys the good reputation of one of the “top 10 most beautiful universities in China”. Kids at Xiamen can listen to the music or pick up shells on the sunshine beach, and parents here can also find fun, sitting in the street café and tasting the life.

Gulangyu Island and the Xiamen City face each other across Lujiang, a 600-meter wide river, which can be reached by 5 minutes’ ferry. The island is a fertile ground for music where men of music talent came out in succession. With the highest density of piano all over China, it gains the excellent reputation of “Piano Island” and “Music Town”. With winding coastlines, the island is surrounded by natural bating beaches. The main attractions on the island are Sunlight Rock, Shuzhaung Garden, Haoyue Park and Yu Garden.

The peak - Sunlight Rock is the symbol of XiamenCity. So there is the saying goes “He who has never been to the Sunlight Rock does not visit Xiamen actually.” If you arrive at the GulangyuIsland, please look at the Gulangyu ferry, and its shape is actually a piano. In addition, there is a piano museum on the island which collects many world famous pianos. If interested in music, you can feel them with your kids.

If you want to savor the leisure the city, nothing is better than rambling among the GulangyuIsland. Go sightseeing every scenic spot leisurely and then you can really feel the charm of the “garden city”. Staying at the small lovely buildings or walking in the spotless streets, the melodious tweedle and palatable sound of the waves and forance notes will come into your ears. If walk tired, you can sit anywhere and calm the mind down in the sound of nature while listening to the famous “Song of Gulangyu” echoed through the air.

Ni hao Wendy! I really enjoyed your article! I lived in Xiamen for two years and taught there. I helped develop it's first international school. I always enjoyed Gulangyu on the weekends!
